Turning an event venue into a smart building showcase in one day

Each year, IoT Sparks brings the IoT community together in Valencia to explore the latest innovations in connected technology. This time, we took it one step further. Our live use cases showed how IoT makes event environments smarter and more insightful.

So, how did we do it? 

Milesight sensors captured sound levels, people flow, air quality, and even direct feedback from attendees. The result was a live snapshot of the event, revealing how visitors experienced and interacted with the space throughout the day. 

Behind the scenes, the akenza IoT platform served as the digital backbone. Using LoRaWAN connectivity, akenza collected and processed sensor data in real time. With its Dashboard Builder, we visualized this data on an interactive dashboard featuring a 3D floor plan — turning data into a dynamic, real-time view of the event.

Sound sensors captured how the atmosphere changed throughout the day. Peaks in sound levels reflected moments of high engagement, from presentations and lively discussions to networking sessions.

Ensuring comfort with air quality monitoring

Continuous monitoring of CO2 levels, temperature, and humidity provided real-time insights into air quality. Spikes in CO2 during speaking sessions revealed how crowd density impacted ventilation. These insights enabled timely adjustments to maintain a healthy environment.

Tracking movement with people flow data

Occupancy sensors monitored how attendees navigated the venue, identifying popular areas and uncovering underused zones. This data helps organizers understand how layout, content, and design influence movement to support space planning for future events.

A simple button board invited visitors to share their impressions instantly, capturing real-time feedback and sentiment.
